URGENT: Scam emails – don’t fall into the trap

Members are being warned to be on the lookout for bogus emails after contractors alerted us to the following three scam messages pretending to be from SELECT and Scottish Building Services Certification (SBSC).

1. Recommendation of services

The most recent message, sent from [email protected], states that we have recommended you to them, as shown in the email below. However, SELECT does not give out such information without your consent, so please delete the email immediately.

2. Verify your email address

An earlier bogus message, also claiming to be from SELECT but sent from [email protected], asked Members to verify their email address, as shown in the example below. If you receive such an email, please delete it immediately.

3. SBSC verification scam

The final bogus email claims to be from Scottish Building Services Certification (SBSC), again asking you to verify your email address as shown below. Again, the email should be deleted immediately.

How to spot a scam email:

  • There may be grammatical errors, e.g. incorrect punctuation in the preview and main body text
  • The business name may be slightly incorrect
  • Remember, SELECT will only email Members from a SELECT staff member or department using our email address, e.g. [email protected]

Other signs you may have received a scam or phishing email have been compiled by the Which consumer rights website:
